08:23 am - I don't like Yum groups

Hi,

Well, I just want to add my own opinion. I really don't like the current package group handling of yum. If all yum intends to store is via rpm then why not do like Debian and make groups empty packages with lots of dependencies instead of being some special magic.

The possible downside is when you want to remove something which came via a group but that in turn removes the whole group. So maybe a Depends is not the correct thing to do, but a Recommends or Suggests (in case RPM supports these). Something that installs the package in question, keeps it from automatic removal of auto-installed packages (hypothetical, as yum currently can't do it), but allows explicit manual removal.

Other than this, yes, even more special magic can be added to RPM and Yum but is that really a good idea?
